Five Quarter Furniture designs and builds custom furniture, cabinetry, and millwork for residential and commercial clients. We work with our clients to create unique solutions and build one-of-a-kind pieces. Sometimes that is a dining table or kitchen island built to fit not just the room, but the family. Sometimes it’s a bar or seating for a restaurant downtown. We prioritize simplicity, elegance, craftsmanship, and practical usability.

Alex Jaynes is a designer and furniture maker who grew up in Knoxville. He earned a degree in Industrial Design from Auburn University, after which he helped design rockets for NASA. He made the move to full-time woodworking in 2011 and honed his craft for several years in Boston as a member of Charlestown Furniture Makers. In 2017, he returned to his hometown and moved into a historic grist mill with his partner, Kelly. He loves problem solving, old tools, hand-cut joinery, and smart design that balances style and function.

Frank Bowles brings his passion for woodworking and experience on and off the job site to Five Quarter Furniture. He began working in the trades in high school, sweeping floors over summers for his step dad’s general contracting company. After getting his degree in History from DePaul University in 2009, he returned full time as a carpenter, eventually working his way up to estimator. Since then, Frank attended Inside Passage School of Fine Cabinetmaking in Vancouver, BC and worked in cabinet shops before branching out on his own. When Frank isn’t in the workshop, he’s out riding his bike, camping, or working on restoring his 100 year old house.
